We do keep saying 'we must write a book' and then follow it up with 'no one would believe some of the stories'!
When we'd served breakfast, we would always ask how our guests had slept. Happily most would reply that they had slept soundly, cocooned in their little log cabin rooms, tucked away in the countryside. We'd also get theatrical yawns from those who never sleep well, those who normally sleep well but don't when they are away, those who didn't sleep because it was too quiet compared to the noisy city and those who had been up all night as teddy had been left at home! There's not much we could do other commiserate and then serve big cups of hot tea and a delicious breakfast to help those poor souls ease themselves into the day. So, what does one say to the guest who complained, yes complained to us, that an owl kept them awake at night? Quick as a flash, we replied ' We're so sorry about that - we forgot to switch him off before we went to bed.' Kate x
