The sun may not always be shining but our garden is full of beautiful birdsong as busy parents build their nests in our amazing trees. Wood pigeons, robins and woodpeckers are regular guests to the bird table. As well as Mr Red Squirrel! We are so lucky that this area is blessed with a large Red Squirrel population.
Guests can watch the Swifts sitting along the telegraph wires in the back fields too.
Wonderful time of year for a short break for sure.

As ever, the year has whizzed in. The world is still reeling from Covid and the rural hospitality sector was hit particularly hard. So many guests this year told us they were choosing to stay with a small business over the big chains/hotels which was great to hear. Many chose small businesses as they felt attention to cleaning protocols and social distancing were more likely to be adhered to, also many felt the bigger hotels had too many communal areas that they didn't feel comfortable in. Many chose to stay closer to home due to rising fuel costs so we had more 'locals' this year - Fife is ideally placed for trips from Edinburgh or Glasgow or Aberdeenshire. Just from our snapshot questions to our guests, we can see that the way people choose to travel, socialise, eat out and stay has changed forever post Covid. So many of our local food and pub businesses are trying to adapt to stay afloat at this time and we do everything we can to send guests their way too, Shout out to The Kettlebridge Inn and The GolfInn@ Ladybank!

It was fantastic to be able to welcome our overseas guests once again, many over to visit family they'd not seen since pre -Covid and also many to visit St Andrews for The 150th Open. We are so lucky to live and work in this part of Fife - surrounded by wonderful walks, hills and historic houses and palaces and not far from beautiful coastal villages.

We are not complaining - this summer here at Redlands Country Lodge has been one of the busiest and hottest on record!
Thank you to everyone who has made Summer 2022 such a success. We seem to have had a summer of guests celebrating anniversaries, honeymooners, marriage proposals and big birthdays too.
And so many guests just celebrating the fact they can escape their own doors after Covid kept us cooped up for far too long - it's just wonderful that we can all get out and explore the countryside here in Fife. 
We look forward to welcoming guests for short breaks throughout the Autumn and Winter season, with some of our summers guests already re-booked. Oh how we are waiting patiently to welcome guests back to Redlands Country Lodge! We await guidance from government and VisitScotland as to when we can open our doors again.
Our accommodation is now set up for self catering, with no communal internal areas so we are confident we can ensure social distancing is maintained at all times. We await guidance on additional cleaning rituals and best products to use and to provide to future guests.
At the moment, we are open only to keyworkers and will keep you all updated when we can open again.
We continue to support all of our local village small businesses by shopping and using takeaway services ourselves! We want them to remain in business for your return!

Our WeeBothy has it's own hot tub, set on a decked area, just outside the patio doors. And it's booked most weekends and midweek from about end of March! We are currently investigating new tubs for WeeOne and WeeTwo. Do you think we should???

Who's ready for a short break already?!
Don't leave it too late to find a reason to book in this year- we've already had bookings in this week for Easter 2020, Valentines and for June and July! 

We do keep saying 'we must write a book' and then follow it up with 'no one would believe some of the stories'!
When we'd served breakfast, we would always ask how our guests had slept. Happily most would reply that they had slept soundly, cocooned in their little log cabin rooms, tucked away in the countryside. We'd also get theatrical yawns from those who never sleep well, those who normally sleep well but don't when they are away, those who didn't sleep because it was too quiet compared to the noisy city and those who had been up all night as teddy had been left at home! There's not much we could do other commiserate and then serve big cups of hot tea and a delicious breakfast to help those poor souls ease themselves into the day. 
So, what does one say to the guest who complained, yes complained to us, that an owl kept them awake at night?
Quick as a flash, we replied ' We're so sorry about that - we forgot to switch him off before we went to bed.'
